Boating in the Ozarks waters is best, as everyone knows. However, there is a place in the Arizona desert that lures in powerboaters from far and wide:
Lake Havasu.
In fact, Lake Havasu is busy with community events all year round with events on the lake. Local and yearly events such as the Hot Air Balloon Festival, Winterfest, and Spring Break are just a few of the many events in the area that make it the place to stay!
One of the most exciting, and arguably the most luxurious, events that Lake Havasu holds, however, is its annual Desert Storm Poker Run where both seasoned and novice boaters bring out their big toys and play out on the water in Lake Havasu.
Every year, the Lake Havasu Desert Storm Poker Run and Shootout holds a six-day event that continues to feature the renowned Main Street Party – highlighting the top-caliber boats lined along Lake Havasu City’s Main Street. The street party is free to the public and open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The famed poker run will be held on a Friday, while the acclaimed shootout is scheduled for the next day and it will conclude who is crowned “King of the Desert,” and “Queen of the Desert” by sporting the fastest motorboat speeds on Lake Havasu.
Past contenders have clocked speeds topping 180 mph. The shootout, which has been pounded by strong winds in past years, sets off near the Site Six Launch Ramp with the boats going towards south on the 1-mile course. Spectators can watch the shootout from the surround bluffs on the island adjacent to Site Six to Spectator Point, or from the Nautical Beachfront Resort.
Last year’s event was considered as the biggest, baddest, and wildest event of the season in Lake Havasu City. Attendees were encouraged to dress up in costumes for the run. Judges awarded awesome prizes to participants and teams with the best costumes on the event.
Participants in the Monster Storm Poker Run 2018 and their fans joined in on the fun at the Monster Storm Pool Party in Kokomo. By evening, the festivities headed over to the conference center for the Costume Bash and awards banquet. The party went well into the evening in all the attendees’ costumed glory.
The entire event intends to attract and entice spectators to come and see what the Poker Run is all about, while sharing what they are all passionate about: boating. A lot of the boats racing will be on display up and around the boulevard and they will take your breath away with their enormity.
Whether visitors enjoy watching exhilarating extreme sport boats or just want to see who will win at the event, they would not want to miss out on the excitement of the Desert Storm Street Party. Local bars, restaurants, and shops will be open, and the event will feature many different vendors.
